File>Open will Open a DXF/DWG as a SoftPlan
Drawing
|
|
SoftPlan Version 12 has changed the
way DXF and DWG files can be opened. When a DWG or a DXF file is selected
from the Open dialog, SoftPlan will automatically import the file into a
new drawing. This differs from the Import command, which imports the file
into the currently opened drawing file.
|
- Select File > Open.
- Change the Files of Type from
SoftPlan Drawing (*.spf) to DWG File (*.dwg) or DXF File (*.dxf). The
dialog will then display all the files of that type.
- Select the desired DWG or DXF file to
open and choose the Open button.
- The program will then close the
current drawing and import the DXF or DWG file as a new SoftPlan
drawing.

JPEG Added to Save As
|
|
SoftPlan Version 12 has added the
ability to now save your files in a JPEG (.jpg) format. This allows the
file to be saved in a widely used format with a minimal file size.
|
- With a file already open Select File
> Save As.
- In the Save As
menu which appears, and from the Save As Type drop down menu select the JPEG
Image (.jpg) format.
- Give the file a
name, as you normally would.
- Select
Save.
- The file will be
saved in a JPEG (.jpg) format. This file can then be viewed by others who do
not own a SoftPlan program, used for internet purposes, etc. Saving it in the
JPEG format will also minimize the image file size thus making it easier to
transport the file.

Overlay Shows all Materials Within the Wall
|
Improvements to the
Overlay function in Version 12 now allow all Wall materials, on the drawing
being brought in, to be displayed. In previous versions of SoftPlan, the
outline of the entire wall or only the bearing materials were shown in
Overlay.
|
|
|
BMP Added to Save As
|
|
SoftPlan version 12 has improved the
Save as command by adding in a BMP, Windows Bitmap, file format.
|
|
The additional file
format is useful for posting images on the internet and sending images to clients
without sending the actual SoftPlan drawings.
|
- Click on
File.
- Click on Save
As.
- At the bottom of
the Save As dialog box, click on the down arrow key in the Save as type
field.
- Select the Windows
Bitmap (*.bmp) option and enter a name for the file.

DWG/DXF Files can be Imported Without Exploding
Blocks
|
|
SoftPlan has expanded the
compatibility of the Import DWG/DXF feature in version 12. SoftPlan will
now import DWG and DXF cad files that contain blocks, a group of objects
you can associate together to form a single object. In previous versions
the drawing needed to be exploded in the host program to remove all blocks
on the drawing. Now SoftPlan will import these blocks and convert them
over to SoftPlan Symbols. This enhances the ease of which drawing files
from other Cad programs can be imported and used inside SoftPlan.
|
- Select File > Import >
DWG/DXF.
- Locate the DWG or DXF file you wish
to import and select it to open.
- A DWG/DXF File Import Status dialog
will appear indicating how many Entities and Blocks where imported.
Select OK on this dialog.
- The file is then displayed on the
screen. All Blocks are now editable as SoftPlan Symbol.
- To view all the imported symbols,
select File > Drawing Library.
- If necessary, you can add the
imported symbols to your System Library by selecting the Add button in
the Configure Library dialog for use on other SoftPlan
drawings.

DWG Import Added
|
|
A major enhancement to SoftPlan
Version 12 is the ability to now directly import a DWG file. Previously, a
file would have first been converted to a DXF file format before being
imported to SoftPlan.
|
- Open the drawing where the DWG file
is to be imported to
- Select File > Import >
DWG/DXF
- Windows Explorer’s Open menu will now
be present on screen
- Navigate to the DWG file to import
and select.
- Select the Open button and SoftPlan
will import the DWG file to the drawing screen.

Raster Image Import
|
|
SoftPlan Version 12 has added the
ability to now import Raster images into a drawing. In previous versions
this was not available. This added feature will allow you to import
scanned or saved images, such as logos, for use within your Softplan
drawing.
|
- Select File - Import -
Image.
- From the Open menu browse to the
correct location, where your image file is located.
- Select the appropriate file type
(.bmp, .jpg, .tga) from the Files of Type drop down.
- Choose the file you wish to then
import into Softplan and select Open.
· Once you have selected Open from
the menu, you will be returned to your Softplan drawing screen.
Images - 1,2,3
- At the drawing screen click to begin
drawing an expanding box, and drag your cursor to define the size of your
box.
- Click again to display your
image.
· Your image will be oriented on the
screen based on the expanding box you define. If your box was drawn to be
wider than it was taller, your image will display horizontally. If your
expanding box was drawn taller than it was wider, your image will be
displayed vertically.

Read-Only Drawings can be Viewed
|
|
Version 12 now allows Read-Only files
to be opened. Drawings on a CD, for instance, are created onto a CD in
Read-Only format. This new feature allows the file to be opened directly
from the CD instead of having to first copy the file to the hard drive and
uncheck the Read-Only property.
