What is the best way to draw a Cape Cod / Salt Box roof?
Using File > Save As, create the second floor from a copy of the first floor. In the second floor, edit your
front and rear walls to the Plate wall provided in the Wall definition. Leave the gable end walls as they are, edit
the other walls to 1-1.2” in height.
Next, draw in your dormers at the front and back as necessary at their 8'-0" wall height.
In roof mode, trace in the main roof first. If necessary, adjust the front and rear reference circles to reference
the 1-1/2" plate height. Edit item the remaining two edges to gable. Edit the pitch of the main roof accordingly
Using Add Roof, left click on each of the three walls of the dormer and right click to create the dormer roof.
Based on the 12" pitch roof which is referencing to wall heights 1-1/2" the dormer roofs, which are referencing to
8'-0" wall heights, should valley into the larger main roof.
Finally, in the Drawing Mode, edit item your gable end walls that the larger roof is referencing to, and modify
them to Fit to Roof which will in turn balloon frame these walls.
