Version 14 Tool You May Have Missed - In the past, when a design changed after elevations, cross sections, and roof plans were near completion, a decision needed to be made whether to generate new files and effectively start over or manually modify the existing file to reflect the changes. With Version 14 the items already added to those drawings such as paint, notes, and dimensions need not be lost and redrawn. By simply saving a generated elevation, cross section, or roof plan over an existing version of the same drawing, SoftPlan 14 will give the option to merge any items that were drawn on the original drawing with the newly generated drawing. With a few minor changes to the final drawings such as regenerating paint, moving or editing notes as necessary, the new drawings will be complete in a short amount of time. For an example of this feature, click here to go to the Elevations category of the Version 14 new features.

Question: I have created a new sink symbol, but I can see the countertop through it in SoftView. Why?
Answer: This is an option in the configure symbol window. Go to File > System Library then locate and edit your symbol. To the left of the Available Symbols box, locate and enable the "Cuts Countertop" option. |
|
Question: How do I include light sources when creating new Electrical Symbols?
Answer: With Version 14, light sources can be added prior to saving an electrical symbol to a library. Typically, Atmospheric Lights are used in symbols and can be added from the draw menu in SoftView mode. Edit the light source to have the desired effects and position prior to saving the symbol. Once the new symbol has been added to an Electrical Symbol library, the light sources will appear in SoftView Mode and in the camera control within SoftView. |

Here is a recent letter we received from a customer regarding SoftPlan technical support:
"I have been a very satisfied SoftPlan user since Version 8. I would like to tell you one thing that I appreciate about your company. When I call Tech Support, I talk to a human! I appreciate that so much as I get so tired of calling other tech support lines and having to wade through a menu system or waiting 20 plus minutes. I also like it that your technicians know the program and know about building houses. Your tech support is awesome! Keep it that way."

Survey results from the last newsletter: To see the results of the last SoftPlan user survey from the December '08 newsletter (Click here). |
| |
| There are two different survey questions for this newsletter: |
1. The following survey is about handheld cellular devices and SoftPlan reView. SoftPlan users, click
here for the latest survey question!
|
| |
2. SoftPlan has been approached by companies that would like to offer engineering services to SoftPlan users located in the United States. The concept behind these proposals is that these engineering firms would electronically accept information directly from your SoftPlan drawings and complete the engineering calculations based on this information. The results would be sent back to you both electronically and as "Wet Stamped" engineered drawings (via courier). The proposed benefit to you is faster turn-around and perhaps less expense. This survey is intended to help us gauge your interest in such services and to direct our resources to accomplish this if there is sufficient interest. Click here to offer your input on this topic. |
