2009 International Builders’ Show:
A Big Hit for SoftPlan!

The 2009 International Builders’ Show (IBS) was held in Las Vegas, NV on January 20-23, 2009. The show returned to Las Vegas after being located in Orlando, FL for the last four years. With 1,600 exhibiting companies and over 250 education sessions, IBS continues to be the building industry’s premiere event. The 2009 official attendance figure was 61,202, being significantly down from the 2008 IBS show which brought in over 92,000 visitors. However, those building professionals that did attend agreed that being present at IBS, especially during tough economic times was an opportunity to revamp their business, network, and educate themselves to be ready for when the housing market turns around.

Although, attendance was down for the entire show, the SoftPlan booth was quite busy and the buzz from booth visitors was surprisingly positive and nowhere near the doom and gloom of the national press. SoftPlan had an increase in booth traffic by over 13% compared to the 2008 IBS show. SoftPlan’s 1000 sq. ft. booth was located in the central hall of the convention center and was staffed with sales representatives that provided software demonstrations, in addition to technical support staff to answer tech questions.

Many SoftPlan users running Version 14 came by to share how much they were enjoying the upgrade. And users not on Version 14 were eager to upgrade after viewing the new features. Even users who were operating very old versions of the software (Version 11, 10, and earlier) were ready to bring their old software up to speed and take advantage of the new tools and features. Among potential new customers purchasing SoftPlan for the first time, there seemed to be a trend that builders were looking to bring design/drawing/estimating functions in house as they move forward out of the current housing slowdown. Therefore, they were turning to SoftPlan to help them turn around their business.

Next year’s International Builders’ Show returns to Las Vegas, on January 19-22, 2010.
