Is there a way to specifically locate an item so as to be sure that another item is not selected instead?

Select the function you wish to perform, such as edit, erase or move, followed by Ctrl+L to open the locate menu. Select the item you wish to modify from the menu, and then click on the item you wish to perform the function on. This item will be the only object that the program will look for during this function.
