Is it possible to have a door and sidelights treated as one unit?

Yes. Once the door and sidelights have been drawn and dimensioned into place relative to one another, select Edit > Unit Openings and draw a box completely around the openings. SoftPlan will treat the openings as one unit.

Yes. Using the Add Opening Component feature. (See FAQ “How do I place a transom over a door”.)
