How can I import my own trees or other images into 3D?
Bitmap (*.bmp), JPEG (*.jpg), and Targa (*.tga) texture files can be added to use within SoftView. Scan the
image at a size of 256 x 256 pixels and a color resolution, or color depth, not greater than 32-bit. Then copy the
image to an existing folder in the SoftPlan13\3D\Textures\Bitmap folder. For the 2D symbol, on your floor plan
sketch a single line to represent the width of the image (how wide you would like the tree or shrub), then add it
to a library by selecting File > Library > Symbol. From the Configure Library menu, highlight the Rendering
Trees or Rendering Shrubs library and click the Add button. Draw an expanding box around the line. In the Add
Symbol menu, type in a name. Place a checkmark in the box Link to 3D Symbol. Select the 3D Symbol Folder > Shape
and select 36x36 Vertical Plane. In the Add Symbol dialog, uncheck the Extract in Elevation option and checkmark
Always Face Camera. Click the Textures button. In this dialog, select the texture for the image, click the
Properties button, checkmark Scale and Transparent. Scale stretches the image across the entire plane and
Transparent will blank out the background. See the Learning SoftPlan manual for a full description of
Transparent.
