How can I generate a bird's eye view and also display the bearing walls beneath?
Rather than generate using the bird's eye within Roof Mode, generate a side elevation using the Build >
Elevation. In the mode menu change Visible Line to Wire Frame. Choose Camera and select the middle button on the
direction menu. Regenerate the bird's eye view with bearing walls displayed. From the Material > Material
Assignment, turn off any unwanted information, such as all Opening Properties. Leave on items such as exterior
surface materials of brick, siding, and beams. Regenerate the model. On the screen, you should now have a roof
outline generated with double lines for the exterior material. Select File > Save As to create a drawing from
this image. Once back to the drawing, erase the inside line of the double line generated for the exterior
surface.
Note: To further save time, before exiting SoftView, save the Material Assignment changes you have made by
selecting File > Material File > Save. The next time a generated bird's eye is needed, generate the elevation
as instructed above, then select File > Material File > Load. Pick the saved file. Change modes to Wire
Frame, click Go, and the image will be generated from the previously saved setup.
